Highlights from our “In the Garden” and “At the Beach” Camps

We just wrapped up two weeks of fun with 3- to 6-year-old campers in our first set of music + art camps at InTune. Through two sessions each of art and music per day, we had a blast exploring the bounties of the backyard at our “In the Garden” camp, and learning about sea (and seaside) life in our “At the Beach” camp.

During our garden-themed week, we looked at weather, growth, flowers, food, caterpillars, bumblebees, spiders, and numerous other critters. Our energetic music sessions included ample time for kids to play instruments, sing, dance, establish an ear for rhythm with various beat-makers, visualize songs through felt board activities, and more. Our crafts for the week involved various media, ranging from painting and printmaking to sculpture and instrument-making. We had a great time making handmade rainsticks, doing fruit and veggie prints, painting terracotta pots, creating egg carton caterpillars and water bottle bumblebees (to name a few!). We also spent some time in the back garden of the InTune studio, collecting different natural elements during a backyard scavenger hunt, and examining a handful of bugs and slugs we found during a garden exploration! Our week of beach-themed activities included sun and waves, boating, swimming, snorkeling, fish, turtles, whales, sharks, and several other sea creatures. We started each morning singing and dancing in the music room, introducing different types of instruments, songs, sound making and rhythm creation along with an element of storytelling for expressive, fun and informative sessions! Our daily art projects ranged from homemade musical instruments to games to wearable art. Some of our creations included ocean drums, miniature floating sailboats, scuba masks, a magnetic fishing game, egg carton lobsters, and shark hats!
